Ake Arts and Book Festival

Ake Arts and Book Festival is more than an annual celebration, it’s a vibrant convergence of African thought, literature, art, and expression. Since its inception in 2013 by the visionary Lola Shoneyin and the Book Buzz Foundation, Ake has become a sanctuary where Africa’s most brilliant writers, poets, artists, and thinkers gather to inspire and challenge the status quo.

I’ve had the honour of serving as Technical Director and Live Production Director for this iconic festival. In these roles, I lead a dedicated team of tech professionals to craft seamless experiences that elevate every moment, from crisp, immersive soundscapes to reliable and engaging live-stream broadcasts that connect audiences across the globe.

As Technical Director, I oversee the behind-the-scenes infrastructure, lighting, audio, visuals, and stage setups, ensuring every technical element works in harmony. As Live Production Director, I call the show in real-time, orchestrating transitions, cueing content, and maintaining the rhythm and energy of the entire program.

For us, Ake is a creative getaway, a place where innovation meets tradition, and where every detail matters. Together, we’ve helped shape its atmosphere into something magical, where people don’t just attend; they experience, reflect, and return hungry for more.
